To me, Coffee is a Passion, that helps to balance life. I love the coffee tree itself, the seasons it goes through, the scent of the flowers, the deep green of the leaves, and I love that it produces coffee that I enjoy.

The story of bush brew -

 One
lucky
accident.

It all started about 23 years ago, when Grant and his family received some coffee skins for their vegetable garden from a local coffee estate. The coffee skins were often used as mulch around the plants. After a couple of months, tiny coffee trees started to germinate in the vegetable garden. At that point they knew very little about coffee. However, they were close friends with the manager of the coffee estate and so like the tree, knowledge started growing.

During this time, there were a number of Cuban doctors working within Mbala, who introduced Grant to roasting coffee using a cast iron pan.

And that is how it all began. So you can say, it was really an international effort that brought Bush Brew Coffee to life.

Mbala is a woodlands dominated region, perfect for growing coffee. Grant began very simply, by roasting his first coffee in a metal pan. He then progressed to a self made roaster over a charcoal fire. While he was roasting the coffee, his wife Lynne would always comment by saying, “This is a real bush brew!” And that is how it got it’s name. Since the early days a lot developed and got more and more advanced.

So you may say Bush Brew Coffee is a very down to earth coffee. You can taste it. That’s what makes it unique.

‘We live in a fairly remote area of Northern Zambia. When people ask where we live, we generally say: in the bush’

What is conscious about the coffee?

When purchasing Bush Brew Coffee you are making a conscious decision.

It’s a conscious decision about the footprint on the environment, when it comes to nutrition, and energy used for the precessing, roasting and packaging of Bush Brew.

It is a conscious decision about the social impact on society. At present the coffee is purchased from Living Hope International in Ndola, which uses the coffee to finance their orphanage. The packaging is tailor made on a peddle sewing machine by a local tailor.

And, Bush Brew Coffee is a conscious decision with regards you as the client, as we strive to keep the coffee affordable, so that you can continue to enjoy a freshly roasted perfect cup!
