Coffee is that essential element, that helps to keep life in perfect balance. Every day nearly 2.4 Billion cups of coffee are drunk in the world. Oh! That first cup of coffee helps us kickstart our day!! But it is also a vital part of keeping the worlds’ social fabric in balance as we so often use the phrase “Let’s meet for a cup of Coffee,” to get together for a chat. It is an integral part of listening to a friend that is going through a hard time. It is savored as we ponder life or perhaps gaze out at a beautiful site in nature. For some Coffee is not a mere drink, but an expression of art and passion. The flavors and the nuances found in each cup are a palatable expression of hours spent in the growing, processing, roasting and finally brewing. All of these in harmony produce that perfect cup.

How Did It All Begin?
It all started about 25 years ago when Grant and his family received some coffee skins for their vegetable garden, from a local Coffee Estate. The coffee skins were often used as mulch around the plants. After a couple of months coffee seedlings trees started to germinate from some escapee beans.
At this point they knew very little about coffee. However, they had some great friends who managed the Coffee Estate and they were more than willing to share their knowledge. After learning how to process the coffee came the roasting.
Around about this time there were some Cuban Doctors working in the area and they introduced us to roasting the processed coffee beans using a cast iron pan.
And that is how it all began!!

As mentioned, Grant began very simply, by roasting his first coffee in a cast iron pan. He then progressed to a self made roaster over a charcoal fire. While he was roasting the coffee, his wife, Lynne, would always comment by saying, “This is a real bush brew!” And that is how the name came about. However, the roasting process has since developed to some extent but is still kept very simple.
So you may say Bush Brew Coffee is a very “down to earth” coffee. You can taste it. That’s what makes it unique.
Our farm is located in a remote part of Northern Zambia, near a little town called Mbala. When people ask where we live, we generally say: “in the bush!”
Grant
Mbala is a perfect place to grow coffee. It actually has a coffee growing history spanning over 80 years. Sadly, for some decades now, coffee production in Mbala has dwindled. However there has been a great effort made to revive it. We now boast of three large Coffee Estates.

What is conscious about the coffee?
When purchasing Bush Brew Coffee you are making a conscious decision.
It’s a conscious decision about the footprint on the environment, when it comes to nutrition, and energy used for the precessing, roasting and packaging of Bush Brew.
It is a conscious decision about the social impact on society. At present the coffee is purchased from Living Hope International in Ndola, which uses the coffee to finance their orphanage. The packaging is tailor made on a peddle sewing machine by a local tailor.
